We are delighted to share that Cameron R D Bunney has been awarded a prestigious EPSRC Doctoral Prize for the project First-generation accelerated detectors, and is joining our group starting from October 2024. This innovative project will explore the Unruh effect in superfluid helium-4 and realise the first Unruh-DeWitt detector, building upon the experimental proposal Third sound detectors in accelerated motion, which was recently published in the New Journal of Physics. The prize coincides with the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology as recognised by UNESCO and the UN, celebrating a century of quantum physics.
